It started with 12. By graduation, it was 6. Only half of the 17th Waterways Conservation Officer Class graduated.

New trainees will start next year, but the course takes a year to complete, so there won’t be an 18th Class in the field until the fall of 2007. With retirements and promotions, there will be even more openings.
